IVF treatment in Sishu fertility clinic

IN VITRO FERTILIZATION (IVF)

Today, In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is identified as one of the most effective treatments for infertility.

IVF has pregnancy rates five times higher than Intrauterine Insemination and is an ideal next option for those who are struggling to conceive after undergoing first-choice treatments.

IVF treatment has been identified as an effective option, especially for those with high age, impaired fallopian tubes, male factor infertility, and many others.

IVF: The Basics

IVF is a highly personalized process that includes the removal of the woman’s ovaries, fertilizing the eggs with sperm, and returning the egg to the woman’s womb.

To begin, the team of fertility experts collects the egg from the ovaries using minimally invasive procedures. The collected eggs are then fertilized in a lab with a fusion of sperm. In case of abnormal semen analysis, ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) procedure is followed to fertilize the egg, which is done by injecting a sperm into each egg. The fertilized eggs result in embryo formation which can then be monitored using PGA-A and PGT-M tests to identify any genetic or chromosomal defects. These tests also contribute to increasing success rates. After the successful development of embryos, they are transferred to the uterus for achieving pregnancy.

Genetic Testing

At Shisu Fertility Clinic, our team of experts prioritizes genetic testing for increased chances of success. We follow PGT-M and PGT-A Genetic Testing procedures to check the genetic conditions to select the very best embryos. In addition to identifying the reason for unsuccessful fertility cycles, Genetic Testing also aids to increase the success rate of IVF.

Mini IVF

Mini IVF is a similar treatment as IVF; but involves the use of a small number of eggs with high-quality rather than high numbers of eggs. The procedure involves using lower doses of fertility medications for stimulating ovaries and producing fewer eggs.

Therefore, this approach is ideal for those sensitive to fertility medications and looking to minimize exposure to medications. As it also involves fewer ultrasound and blood monitoring appointments, it is also an ideal option for those with less time commitment. However, it is important to consider that the success rate for mini IVF may be less than traditional IVF, as the result of fewer eggs. Our team of experts will examine your needs and circumstances to determine if mini IVF is an ideal option for you.

In general, IVF is recommended for individuals or couples who have been trying for pregnancy for a prolonged period. Our fertility specialists can help determine if IVF is the best option for you after considering your individual needs and circumstances.

Here are some common reasons for you to consider IVF treatment to conceive.

  • For individuals or couples who have been unsuccessful to conceive after going through first-line treatment options including IUI.
  • For women with ovulation disorders or low ovarian reserve
  • For women with infertility associated with age
  • For individuals with a history of genetic defects
  • For women with damaged fallopian tubes
  • For women with blocked fallopian tubes
  • For women with endometriosis and PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)
  • For a single woman or a same-sex couple
  • For women or couples experiencing unexplained infertility.
  • For those couples with poor sperm quantity or quality in male partners.

At Shishu Fertility Clinic, IVI treatment is carried out following different stages. Here is how our team of experts has classified the different stages of IVF treatment.

Initial Consultation

Before deciding on IVF treatment, firstly, you will consult fertility specialists and experts in our Shishu Fertility Clinic. During the initial consultation, our team will study your medical history and carry out a physical exam. This helps to build a customized treatment plan that meets your needs and goals; while ensuring a high success rate.

After studying your physical exam and other preliminary tests including your Day 3 hormone levels, our team will brief you in detail regarding the IVF treatment cycle and prepare you accordingly.

Ovarian Stimulation

The treatment cycle begins with ovarian stimulation. It involves the use of the medication for encouraging the patient’s ovaries to increase egg production. The patient goes through medication for 7 to 10 days. Our fertility specialist will track the progress following blood tests and ultrasound exams to ensure that medication is contributing desired results.

After the egg with follicles reaches a healthy size, our team uses human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) injection to result in the final maturation of the eggs.

Egg Retrieval

The Egg retrieval process begins after 36 hours the patient has gone through an hCG injection. The patient is provided with light anesthesia and minor surgery is performed for retrieving eggs. During the surgery, our fertility specialist uses a needle through the vaginal wall for retrieving the eggs from the patient’s ovaries. The painless procedure takes about 20 to 30 minutes to complete. After egg retrieval, you will start progesterone to begin the uterus preparation for embryo implantation.

On this day, our team will also collect your partner’s sample semen in our lab. In case you have received donor sperm, our team tests the sample for quality and health before beginning egg retrieval.

Embryo Development

To develop embryos, our team fertilizes eggs in the lab with your partner’s or donor’s sperm. The fertilized eggs are then transferred to incubators to aid further development. Usually, it takes a few hours for a sperm to fertilize eggs after insemination. In case of low fertilization possibilities, ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) may be followed, where the sperm is directly injected into eggs.

Embryo Selection

After about 5 days, our fertility specialist will conduct an examination to determine the healthiest and highest-quality embryo. Our fertility specialist may use a PGS or PDG test during the selection process to access additional information to aid in the selection of the best embryos.

Embryo Transfer

After selecting the best embryos, single or multiple embryos are transferred into the patient’s uterus. During the process, a catheter is inserted through the cervix to transfer embryos. The overall process is simple and usually painless. The patient can carry on with the regular activities from the next day.

Post Transfer

Post embryo transfer, our specialists will monitor the patient’s progress to determine the outcome of the procedure. During this period, the patient will carry on with progesterone therapy to help thicken the uterine lining, which aids embryo implantation.

After 2 weeks, our specialists carry out a blood test for pregnancy. If the result is positive, the patient will continue the progesterone for up to a month. In case the result is negative, the patient may consult with the doctor for further treatment options.
