Affordable IVF in Nepal | Get Personalized Care at Every Step
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is one of the most effective assisted reproductive technologies available today, helping thousands of couples in Nepal achieve their dream of parenthood. At Sishu Fertility Clinic (with clinics in Chitwan and Dang), our licensed IVF specialists design a treatment plan built around your unique fertility profile, not a one-size-fits-all protocol.
What Is IVF Treatment?
IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) is a fertility treatment where eggs are retrieved from the ovaries, fertilized with sperm in a laboratory, and the resulting embryo is transferred into the uterus to establish a pregnancy. The term “in vitro” means “in glass” – referring to the laboratory environment where fertilization takes place outside the body.
IVF is recommended when natural conception has not occurred after 12 months of trying (or 6 months for women over 35), and when simpler treatments like IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) have not resulted in pregnancy. It is one of the most researched and successful fertility treatments available worldwide, with over 8 million IVF babies born globally since 1978.

Who Should Consider IVF Treatment in Nepal?
IVF is appropriate for a wide range of fertility conditions. Our specialists at Sishu Fertility Clinic typically recommend IVF when:
- Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes: when eggs cannot travel naturally from the ovary to the uterus.
- Male factor infertility: low sperm count, poor motility, or abnormal morphology. In these cases, IVF is often combined with ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), where a single sperm is injected directly into the egg.
- Ovulation disorders: including PCOS where ovulation is irregular or absent even after medication.
- Endometriosis: where uterine tissue grows outside the uterus, affecting egg quality and implantation.
- Unexplained infertility: when no specific cause is found after thorough testing.
- Advanced maternal age (35+): when egg quality or ovarian reserve has declined.
- Recurrent miscarriage: where genetic testing (PGT) can be combined with IVF to select the healthiest embryos.
- Previous failed IUI cycles: typically after 3-4 unsuccessful IUI attempts.
How Pregnancy is achieved in IVF?
The IVF process starts by stimulating the ovaries with hormone injections to produce multiple eggs. Doctors then retrieve these eggs from the ovaries. In a laboratory, the eggs are fertilized with sperm to create embryos. After several days of culture, the healthiest embryo(s) are selected for transfer into the uterus. If successful, the embryo implants in the uterine lining, resulting in pregnancy.
Considering IVF in Nepal?
Don’t hesitate to reach out to Sishu Fertility Clinic today. Schedule a consultation with our fertility specialists to discuss your unique situation and explore how IVF can help you achieve your dream of parenthood.
When do Doctors recommend IVF treatment?
When the male partner has a low sperm count, poor motility, or abnormal sperm morphology (Male factor Infertility).
When a female partner has Blocked Fallopian Tubes and ovulation disorders benefits from IVF (Female Factor infertility).
When no specific cause for infertility is found after thorough testing, IVF may be recommended.
IVF can help women have babies even if they’re older. Sometimes, doctors can freeze eggs or embryos to use later.
IVF is often recommended after other fertility treatments, such as fertility drugs or intrauterine insemination (IUI), have not resulted in pregnancy.
The IVF Process at Sishu Fertility Clinic - Step by Step
A complete IVF cycle at Sishu Fertility Clinic takes approximately 6 to 8 weeks from initial consultation to pregnancy test result. Here is what to expect at each stage:
Initial Consultation and Fertility Assessment
Your specialist reviews your medical history and orders baseline tests: hormone panel (FSH, LH, AMH, Estradiol), antral follicle count (AFC) ultrasound, and semen analysis for your partner. This gives us the full picture before designing your treatment protocol.
Ovarian Stimulation
Daily hormone injections stimulate your ovaries to develop multiple follicles (each containing an egg). Your response is monitored closely through blood tests and ultrasound scans every 2–3 days. Medications are adjusted based on how your body responds.
Trigger Injection and Egg Retrieval
Once follicles reach the right size, a trigger injection is given. Approximately 36 hours later, eggs are retrieved under light sedation using a thin ultrasound-guided needle – a minor procedure that takes about 20–30 minutes. You go home the same day.
Fertilization in the Laboratory
Retrieved eggs are fertilized with your partner’s sperm in our laboratory. For cases of male factor infertility, ICSI is used – a single healthy sperm is injected directly into each mature egg. Fertilized eggs (embryos) are cultured and monitored daily by our embryologist.
Embryo Transfer
The healthiest embryo(s) are selected for transfer. A thin, flexible catheter is used to place the embryo gently into your uterus through the cervix – no anesthesia needed. The procedure takes about 10-15 minutes. One or two embryos are typically transferred. Remaining healthy embryos can be frozen for future cycles.
Pregnancy Test and Follow-Up
A blood hCG test is done 14 days after embryo transfer to confirm pregnancy. If successful, you will continue progesterone support and be monitored with ultrasound scans. If the cycle is unsuccessful, your specialist will discuss findings and options for the next steps, including frozen embryo transfer (FET) using stored embryos.

IVF Risks and Side Effects - What You Should Know
IVF is a safe and well-established medical procedure performed millions of times worldwide each year. However, as with any medical intervention, there are risks and side effects that you should discuss openly with your specialist before starting treatment:
- Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS): A condition where the ovaries over-respond to stimulation medications, causing abdominal bloating and discomfort. Mild OHSS is common (10–20% of cycles); severe OHSS is rare (<1%) and is monitored closely.
- Multiple pregnancy: If more than one embryo is transferred, there is a chance of twins or triplets. Our team will advise on single embryo transfer (SET) when appropriate to reduce this risk.
- Emotional stress: The IVF journey can be emotionally demanding. We provide counseling support throughout your treatment.
- Egg retrieval complications: Minor bleeding or infection is rare but possible. The procedure is performed under ultrasound guidance with full sterile technique.
- IVF does not guarantee pregnancy: Success rates depend on age, diagnosis, and embryo quality. Your specialist will give you a realistic, individualized prognosis before treatment begins.
